It takes a big, hardworking team of incredible humans to smoothly run the behind-the-scenes logistics of a wholesale flower operation- especially one that actively gathers and delivers regionally grown cut-flowers across North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia every week!

This post is to celebrate our Stemz Crew and what incredible people they are at and outside of Stemz…Be sure to say hi when you see them next! And while you can always talk local flowers, you can also talk chemistry, bees, commercial diving, career pivots, plants and literature! Check out their mini bios below to see what I mean…

Calypso | Winston-Salem Hub Manager

Always buzzing around the Winston-Salem Hub or jumping in for deliveries, chances are you’ve probably had the chance to meet Calypso!

Calypso is the Winston-Salem Hub Coordinator and manages the day to day operations at Stemz. With a background in environmental science, she feels right at home among the flowers and greenery. In a previous life, she was a beekeeper in Florida working closely with local farms to integrate agrochemical-free pest management strategies while maintaining her own native plant restoration area.

Her favorite part of working with Stemz is the relationships she has cultivated with farmers and floral creatives alike! Being involved in the community that makes local flowers possible is what makes this role so fulfilling.

Stemz Superpower: Staying calm, kind and cool as a cucumber in the midst of evolving details in a fast-paced timeline!

Jes | Sorter + Flower Courier

Jes is often out doing flower delivery to our wonderful floral creatives far and wide!

Hailing from the West Virginia mountains, Jes is a teaching professor of Chemistry – passionate about ecological sustainability, floral science, and community building. When not teaching or playing with beautiful blooms, Jes is spending time with their lovely children or making some sort of art.

Jes’ favorite part of working with STEMZ is the amazing work culture the team has cultivated but also learning so much new information about local NC flowers.

Favorite Local Flower: Gomphrena

Stemz Superpower: Feeling the energy and always putting on the perfect playlist on Tuesdays for sorting! And as a teacher, they are a natural trainer to new team members.

Dragon | Sorter + Flower Courier

Often found on the road delivering flowers to Charlotte, the Triangle, and South Carolina, you’ll know Dragon when you see him!

Dragon is a student pursuing a degree in Classical Studies, with a deep interest in the sciences and plans for a career in medicine. He brings experience in the film industry, commercial diving, hospitality, and research to the team at STEMZ and always welcomes the opportunity to gain a better understanding of the world around him. When not at work he can be spotted with his wife, Slink, and their pups enjoying the sunshine.

His favorite part of working with STEMZ is the diverse group of individuals encountered each day.

Favorite Local Flower: Snapdragons

Stemz Superpower: Sincerely saying “this is the easiest job I’ve ever had” while effortlessly lugging multiple GIANT heavy buckets of branches onto a truck! Also- driving the the BIG truck on busy streets!

Ashley | Sorter + Flower Courier

New to the team, you will start seeing Ashley with pick-ups and deliveries. Be sure to say hi!

Ashley has been in the corporate world for some time and is pivoting to try new adventures. Her favorite part of Stemz is that she is looking forward to meeting and building relationships with the farmers and floral creatives as well as learning more about all the beautiful flowers and greenery.

Favorite Local Flower: Changes week to week!

Stemz Superpower: Jumping in and learning quickly while being incredibly positive and kind (First two delivery shifts included quite the inclement weather…SNOW, then crazy RAIN!)

Matt | Sorter + Flower Courier

A self-described flower-punk and would-be denizen of Ecotopia, Matt loves filling his days with plants. One of our new floral couriers, you might see him sorting flowers and running deliveries to and from the Winston-Salem Hub.

For him, the best part of working with Stemz is getting to connect with local farmers, florists, and flora.
